The Cubs currently have three position players providing close to nothing on offense and if you’ve been paying any attention at all to Triple-A then you know about Robel Garcia.

If you don’t, then make sure to check out this incredible story about Garcia in The Athletic.

Garcia came up through the Indians organization and played in the minors from 2010-13. Then, he played baseball in Italy for five years before the Cubs signed him this past offseason.

The switch-hitter started the 2019 season at Double-A and in 22 games Garcia slashed .295/.391/.590, with six home runs in 78 at-bats. He was then sent to Triple-A Iowa and has become one of the most popular minor leaguer players among Cubs fans ever since.

In 44 games with the Iowa Cubs, Garcia has 14 home runs with a slash line of .299/.369/.631. That’s a 1.000 OPS. This guy has real power.

He’s primarily played second and third base this year in the minors and although he doesn’t have the best glove around Cubs fans are desperate to see what he can do in the majors instead of continuing to watch Addison Russell, Daniel Descalso and Albert Almora Jr. do nothing at the plate.

This latest move might just point to the Cubs deciding to call up Garcia soon. Tonight, Garcia is getting his first start in the outfield.

At this point, why not find out if you’ve really struck gold with Robel Garcia and call him up. That might be coming soon.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

UPDATE

He hit another bomb Wednesday night.
