REPORT: White Sox Will Call Up Daniel Palka

-

News first broke on Thursday that the White Sox are going to DFA Yonder Alonso in a series of roster moves before the team’s weekend series against the Twins. Now, we know who’s replacing him.

According to James Fegan of The Athletic, the White Sox are calling up Daniel Palka.

Palka quickly became a fan favorite in 2018, when there wasn’t much to cheer about. As a rookie, he hit 27 home runs in 417 at-bats. Unfortunately, he had a terrible start to 2019, only going 1-for-35 at the plate in 13 games. He was optioned back to Triple-A in mid-April and since then Palka has been putting up big numbers with Charlotte.

In 59 games since getting demoted, Palka has slashed .271/.374/.548, with 16 home runs, while striking out 61 times, but walking 38 times.

You have to think that Palka’s April was just a fluke and at this point White Sox fans obviously prefer to see a younger guy get at-bats instead of someone like Alonso, who doesn’t fit into the future plans of the team.

The White Sox will also call up a pitcher to start Friday night and Tim Anderson will go on the injured list with a high ankle sprain. So, there will be a few more roster moves today.
