Craig Kimbrel is scheduled to throw another live BP session in Arizona Saturday and if that all goes well, then the Cubs will send him to Triple-A Iowa.

Kimbrel’s been throwing in extended spring training for the past week, finally facing live batters. While the Cubs haven’t made any official target date for his return, MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian believes Kimbrel could pitch in a game for the Iowa Cubs as soon as Monday.

Then, four more appearances in the minors and Kimbrel could be up with the Cubs right after.

You’d have to figure that for at least the first three appearances Kimrbel will get a day off between pitching and then he’ll go back-to-back in his last step before coming back.

Again, no specific timetable has been given by the Cubs, but let’s speculate and say Kimbrel comes back at the end of June 24-27 series against the Braves?

And hey, who knows, maybe Kimbrel won’t need all five appearances to feel ready. But the good news is that so far he’s right on track to be with the Cubs before the end of June.
