White Sox Call Up Catching Prospect, Tim Anderson Scratched From Lineup

-

Welington Castillo has been pretty bad this season and White Sox fans have been hoping to see anyone else take his spot. Of course, you don’t want to see a guy injured, but after Friday night’s game in Minnesota, White Sox fans got their wish.

Castillo left after taking a nasty foul ball directly off his mask and on Saturday he was placed on the seven-day concussion protocol.

So, the White Sox called up catching prospect Seby Zavala.

The 25-year-old catcher was drafted in 2015 out of San Diego State. Zavala put up a .830 OPS at Double-A in 56 games in 2018 and was then promoted to Charlotte.

So far this season at Triple-A, Zavala hasn’t hit for a high average .218 compared to a .267 overall average in the minors, but 13 of his 19 hits have gone for extra bases.

Zavala has started 15 games behind the plate this season and two at first. He did miss three weeks, going on the injured list on April 25 with left wrist inflammation. He returned on May 14.

And speaking of wrist issues, White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson was scratched from Saturday’s lineup after getting hit on his wrist Friday.

Hopefully that wrist isn’t a serious issue going forward. Anderson is hitting .337, with a .506 slugging % in 46 games this season.
