After using Tyler Chatwood for 4+ innings on Wednesday and then five relievers Thursday following Jon Lester’s short outing, the Cubs needed a fresh arm in the bullpen so they’ve called up James Norwood.
Rowan Wick, who made his Cubs debut on Thursday, has been sent back down to Triple-A Iowa to make room for Norwood.
Norwood made his MLB debut in 2018, with the Cubs, pitching in 11 games and recording a 4.09 ERA in 11 innings. The right-hander features fastball that goes up to 100mph, a change up and slider.
So far this season in Iowa, Norwood has 25 strikeouts, 7 walks, with three saves in 20 innings. He’s appeared in 15 games and has a 4.95 ERA.
