Yu Darvish was emptying the tank at the end of his start against the Marlins on Monday, pumping fastballs in the upper 90s in the sixth inning. With two outs, bases empty and the Cubs leading 5-2, Darvish threw his fastest pitch in a few years, a 99mph fastball to Lewis Brinson. The result was Brinson collapsing to the ground after taking 99mph off his junk, the home plate umpire gasping for air after taking the ricochet off his throat and Willson Contreras also got hit on his arm after the ball bounced off the umpire.

Just wild.

Ouch.

Darvish was taken out after that and got his first win this season. He wasn’t as sharp as his last start against the Pirates, walking none in 5.1 innings last week, but Darvish avoided a big inning against the Marlins. He struck out eight, walked four, hit one, but only allowed two runs on four hits in 5.2 innings.
