How Bears 2019 Schedule is a Perfect Proving Ground for Mitch Trubisky

-

The Chicago Bears 2019 schedule is official. There’s plenty to be excited about. They’ll open the year at Soldier Field against the Green Bay Packers. They will play in a slew of primetime games and late afternoon games against some of the best teams in the league from last year. Nothing about it says it will be easy. Especially for Mitch Trubisky.

Most people know the situation by now. The young quarterback has made believers out of his teammates and his coaches. He just went to his first Pro Bowl last year and had one of the best passing seasons in Bears history. Yet the rest of the NFL media at large have refused to buy in.

They remain skeptical that he can process at a top level in the league, driven mostly by his inconsistent first half of 2018 and still lacking overall experience. What must he do to finally get some of these people on his side? The answer is rather simple.

Play this schedule well.

Bears 2019 schedule is one long gauntlet for Mitch Trubisky

People talk about the team having reasons to gripe about the schedule with its three Thursday night games and slew of other primetime and late afternoon starts. However, it might be Trubisky himself who should be feeling a tad bit picked on at this point.

Last season the young Bears quarterback faced seven of the top 15 pass defenses in the NFL. A hard slate for somebody trying to learn a new offense. Looking at the slate this year, it doesn’t seem like things will be letting up. If anything they will probably be even tougher.

Chicago will be playing against seven teams who had a top 15 pass defense last year. On top of that, they’ll be facing two other teams who are likely to be much improved in that area including Denver (who hired Vic Fangio) and Philadelphia (who has gotten healthy in the secondary).

There’s nothing easy about that. Every year is different of course but it doesn’t feel like Trubisky will be given any breaks in 2019. Perhaps that’s for the best. People already doubt him more than most young quarterbacks in the league. If he can produce a good season against this schedule?

That might finally get some sizable monkeys off his back.
