The Brewers have already improved their team this offseason, signing one-time All-Star catcher Yasmani Grandal and re-signing Mike Moustakas. Now, they are reportedly in talks with free agent closer Craig Kimbrel.

Did you just shit your pants as a Cubs fan? Well, you should at least be worried because if the Brewers sign Kimbrel then that already dominant bullpen becomes a whole lot scarier.

At the same time, this should make Cubs fans pissed off. They’ve known since last November that closer Brandon Morrow wasn’t going to be ready for the start of the regular season after having elbow surgery. All the front office did was sign Brad Brach to a short-term deal and hope Pedro Strop and Carl Edwards Jr. could fill in as well in March and April.

Even after Strop suffered a minor hamstring strain and another free agent reliever Tony Barnette was ruled out for the beginning of the season, the Cubs said they weren’t going to be making any big additions to the bullpen.

It’s an obvious need and Kimbrel is still available. Meanwhile, the Brewers, who had an incredible September run to catch the Cubs and eventually win the division, are being aggressive to make their bullpen unbelievably good.

What are the Cubs doing? Apparently Tom Ricketts really doesn’t care about doing all that’s possible to put the Cubs in the best position to compete.
