Dane Dunning Has Tommy John Surgery, Will Miss 2019 Season

-

The bad luck continues down on the farm for the White Sox, as right-handed pitching prospect Dane Dunning has officially been ruled out for the 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Dunning, 24, had already missed half of the 2018 season with an arm injury. He was hoping to come back fully healthy, but after not getting any better he was shut down for a week before seeing Dr. James Andrews to re-evaluate him.

The result? Surgery.

Dunning is the number six ranked prospect in the White Sox minor league system. He came over to Chicago in the Adam Eaton trade to the Nationals a few years ago after he was picked in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

In 2018, Dunning started 15 games, posting a 2.71 ERA in 86.1 innings. He made 11 of those starts at Double-A, where he threw 62 innings and had a 2.76 ERA. Dunning was then shut down with an elbow sprain.
