Chicago Bears Will Kickoff the 2019 NFL Season Hosting the Packers

-

The Chicago Bears know that being division champions was never their goal even during last season. Granted, it was a lesser goal. However, this team has bigger aspirations. They want to win the Super Bowl. In order to accomplish that, they must establish dominance in the NFC and it starts with their division. No team is a greater obstacle in this regard than the Green Bay Packers.

It seems the Bears will have their chance to gain an advantage right off the bat. The NFL has announced a change to their usual kickoff game in 2019. Instead of the reigning Super Bowl champion hosting an opponent, the league has decided to celebrate its 100th anniversary with its oldest rivalry. The Packers will return to Soldier Field on Thursday night, September 9th looking for revenge.

Not a bad decision. The Bears and Packers played two exciting games last season. Both teams winning at their respective home venues. No doubt the league is trusting them to put on a show with both still being good. Green Bay still has Aaron Rodgers and a rebuilt defense. Chicago has the best defense in football and a maturing offense led by Mitch Trubisky. There’s plenty to love about the idea.

No doubt this game could end up having huge implications over the direction the division will go as well. All the more reason for the Bears to come out swinging. They have to prove that last season wasn’t just a fluke. They won’t be sneaking up on teams anymore and the Packers are likely to have plenty of motivation watching their playoff hopes get crushed in that building last year.
