Bears Defense Takes Big Hit as Bryce Callahan Likely Has Broken Foot

-

The Chicago Bears defense has stayed great all season long. A big key to that success has been healthy. All 11 of their primary starters have played most of the season without issue. The only exception was Khalil Mack missing two games with an injured ankle. However, that streak may be coming to an end. One of their most underrated key players, nickel corner Bryce Callahan may be done for the year with a broken foot.

The injury happened on Sunday night against the Rams. Callahan was seen limping to the locker room before halftime. He was declared doubtful to return at first and then out. Details have been limited on what the problem is, but that may have changed. Callahan was scheduled to do a public autograph session for Elite Icons.

That has since been canceled with the promoter revealing that Callahan has a broken foot. If true, this likely means he will be placed on injured reserve and out for the season.

The timing couldn’t be more brutal for Callahan. He was in the midst of his best season yet as a pro with two interceptions, two sacks, and 45 tackles. It was looking like he’d be in perfect position for a big payday as his contract expires in 2019. Now the issue that has plagued for years resurfaces again.

One problem that Callahan has never been able to shake is health. He’s never played a full NFL season in his career, dealing with all sorts of maladies from hamstrings, to calves and now this foot. For all the good he does on the field, teams aren’t going to pay a guy they can’t trust to stay there consistently.
