Phil Simms Absolutely UNLOADS on the Mitch Trubisky Haters

-

Mitch Trubisky has his share of detractors. That much is obvious. Most of them seem to have a lot in common. They’re members of the national media who don’t follow the team that closely and they also never played a down of professional football in their lives. Bill Barnwell of ESPN. Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com and Adam Schein of CBS Sports. As it turns out though, the embattled Chicago Bears QB has plenty of fans among former players.

Steve Young has spoken out in his defense multiple times. Dan Orlovsky broke down some of his tape that showcased his progress. Louis Riddick believes he still must improve but believes he’s headed in the right direction. Now it seems one can count former Giants quarterback Phil Simms among that number.

Schein made it clear he hasn’t been impressed with where Trubisky is at after his uneven performance in Buffalo. Simms, who’s been hearing similar stuff said for weeks, finally had enough and proceed to let everybody know that they’re insane.

Mitch Trubisky is a victim of unfair expectations

It’s quite possible that the Bears quarterback is being victimized for things that are out of his control. Namely the standout play of others. People see his progress and then watch somebody like Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City lighting up defenses and wonder what the deal is. That is a blatant overlooking of critical facts.

Mahomes is in the second year of the offense he’s playing in and is doing so with weapons he’s already familiar with. Those weapons have been in that system for years. So it’s little wonder they’re playing so well. Meanwhile, Trubisky just started this Matt Nagy system this year and the same can be said for all of his main targets as well.

Expecting them to dominate like Kansas City or Los Angeles have is unrealistic and frankly unfair. Simms recognizes that and is calling people out for it. Good on him.
