The Chicago Bears are 2-0 in games where wide receiver Allen Robinson did not play. These would lead one to believe that the team is good enough to win without him. That, however, is a dangerous misconception. Upon reviewing the numbers spanning this year, people might be surprised to learn how notable an impact the receiver has had on their offense. Especially in regards to quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
The Bears signed him in free agency because they felt he had the capacity to be a #1 guy. That go-to receiver defenses had to account for with extra coverage because of how dangerous they could be. It wasn’t always clear at times, but there is significant evidence to prove he was worth every penny.
Let’s examine Trubisky’s stats and divide them according to the situation. In this case, there are two categories. The first will be games played where Robinson both played and was healthy. The other covers games he played with his injured groin or missed. The difference in overall efficiency is significant.
With Allen Robinson present and healthy
- 70.37 completion %
- 1261 yards
- 11 TDs
- 4 INTs
- 102.16 passer rating
Without Robinson or him playing hurt
- 55.72 completion %
- 688 yards
- 5 TDs
- 3 INTs
- 82.83 passer rating
It’s apparent by those numbers that Robinson makes a tangible difference when he’s on the field. Consider this. Of the 25 total catches that Robinson has made so far this season, 15 of them have gone for a 1st down. That’s the highest percentage (60%) of any of the top wide receivers on the team. Only tight end Trey Burton is better at 68%.

In other words, the Bears and Trubisky lost a major security blanket when Robinson went down. His ability to make catches in key situations was evident over the past two weeks. No fewer than seven of their offensive drives lasted six plays or fewer and ended with a punt. In the last two games against the Buccaneers and Dolphins where he was healthy? It was three.
Make no mistake. The Bears, and especially Trubisky are thrilled to have him back on the field for this critical stretch of the season.
