It wasn’t a huge surprise that Mitch Trubisky didn’t play last Thursday in Detroit. He suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder and had 85 hours to heal from it. That wasn’t enough time and Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy knew it. So he made the sensible decision to sit the Bears starter in favor of veteran backup Chase Daniel.
It worked out. Daniel threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Lions on Thanksgiving, pushing the Bears record to 8-3. Most expected that the extra time off would be more than enough for Trubisky to get ready for a return. Yet recent developments cast a cloud on that idea as Nagy revealed the second-year QB missed Wednesday’s practice.
Coach Nagy does not expect Mitchell Trubisky to practice today and says #10 remains day-to-day.

Nagy on status of Trubisky: "I think the time was good for him. I don’t know his exact pain tolerance or level right now but I definitely think his arrow is up."

Now this doesn’t automatically mean Trubisky won’t play Sunday. He could easily practice Thursday and Friday and play or even miss all three and play. This depends on the issue of pain in the shoulder. Nagy confirmed his range of motion is fine. It’s clear the Bears want their starter to get to a point where he’s pain-free.
That means these next two days will be critical. Trubisky is pushing to play. That much Nagy has confirmed. However, he seems perfectly content to stick with Daniel for another week if there’s even a hint of lingering issues with the shoulder. It’s not hard to see why. He sat Khalil Mack and Allen Robinson for two weeks. Chicago won both games.
He sat Trubisky last week. They won again. Why shouldn’t he feel confident about doing it again versus a struggling 3-8 New York Giants team? At this point, Bears fans will just have to trust him.
