BREAKING: Raiders RB Marshawn Lynch Out Indefinitely, May Head To IR

-

As if the O*kland Raiders’ season couldn’t get any worse, it just did. Perhaps the only bright spot in a dismal offense, running back Marshawn Lynch is out at least a month due to a groin injury, and many reports have him headed to injured reserve for the remainder of the 2018 season.

The injury, which was sustained in the Raiders’ overseas game against the Seahawks in London, was confirmed by an MRI, which revealed the serious nature of the injury. With quarterback Derek Carr struggling and the wide receiving corps practically invisible, Lynch was the only offensive player carrying his weight and then some.

A fan favorite, “Beast Mode” has collected a team-high 460 yards and three touchdowns from scrimmage this season. He will be replaced by Doug Martin in early down work and the rest will be handled by third down back Jalen Richard, who already has carved out a role on passing downs.

“We’ve got a good back over there, Doug Martin, who’s ready to roll,” said head coach Jon Gruden after the Raiders only win of the season vs Cleveland. “And Doug can’t get on the field. This guy (Lynch) does not want to come off the field. He picked up six or seven blitzes yesterday, too, that no one’s talking about. But some of the runs? Good night.”

Gruden went so far as to call Lynch a “Hall of Fame back.” Martin, formerly known as Muscle Hamster, will now get the looks Gruden struggled to find him with Lynch running so hot. At 1-5, the Raiders’ season is on the brink and this injury simply adds more fuel to the rebuild fire.

The Raiders are on a bye week and have yet to make any formal announcements about Lynch, but word is he’s highly-likely to hit the injured reserve list, effectively ending his season. The Raiders’ chances of making the postseason are slim and none and Slim may be headed to the IR.
