Bill Belichick Said Mitch Trubisky Threw the Best Pass of 2018 So Far

-

Bill Belichick will likely go down in history as the best head coach the NFL has ever seen. He’s reached eight Super Bowls and won five them across his 18 years with the New England Patriots. The Chicago Bears have met his team four times since 2002 and lost all four games. That’s how difficult it is to beat him. By that same token, he’s an even harder man to impress.

Keep in mind this guy has coached arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history and has gone against many other all-time greats in his long career including Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, John Elway, and Dan Marino. Suffice to say his level of expectation doesn’t get much higher. So when he heaps praise on a quarterback for anything, it’s something to take notice of.

He had some for Mitch Trubisky during a conference call with the Chicago media on Wednesday. He’s already begun digging into the tape on the young Bears signal caller and was blown away by one throw in particular that caught his attention from the Miami game last week.

“The execution of the play from Trubisky to Gabriel down the sideline, that’s about as good of a throw and catch as I’ve seen all year. The execution was like a 99 out of a 100.” … There was like a few inches to get the ball in there 50 yards downfield and that’s where it was.”

Bill Belichick stamp of approval should quiet Trubisky doubters

The old head coach has a keen eye. Everything about the throw is indeed perfection. Trubisky’s mechanics from top to bottom are clean. He cuts the ball loose on time after seeing the coverage. What makes it all the more impressive is Gabriel is 5’8. It’s not like he’s a big target with a wide catch radius. He didn’t have much separation. So the ball had a tiny window to get through for a completion.

Trubisky hit it right on the money. People have hounded him for months about everything. He can’t throw deep. He can’t throw to the left. Well that play was both deep and to the left and received validation as the best throw of 2018 so far. What do they have to say to that? The truth is Trubisky is still growing. He’ll have his down moments in the future but it’s clear his growth is accelerating.

When a player has the attention of someone like Belichick, that means something.
