Manny Machado and Chicago Cubs outfielder Albert Almora Jr. aren’t blood related, but don’t tell them they’re not family. They both call each other cousin and both share a childhood dream, to win the World Series together.

Almora has already reached the feat, being a part of the 2016 Chicago Cubs and now Machado may have the opportunity to join his cousin to win another one together.

The rumors and reports connecting the Cubs to Machado started way back in December and they’re not slowing down two months into the 2018 season. Obviously any team would love to add Machado to their roster, but being a free agent after the season and the price the Baltimore Orioles might have are things every team has to consider in a trade.

Anyway, the Orioles are in Chicago to play a series against the White Sox and before Monday’s game the media met with Machado. The biggest take away?

Machado brought up Almora and their dream of winning a World Series.

Of course, if the Cubs don’t trade for Machado, his relationship with Almora could play a factor in the offseason, when he picks where to play the prime of his career.

As far as the Cubs going after Machado this trade deadline, Almora is fully on board.

“Growing up, this is how much confidence we had in our abilities, we were always like, ‘Man, if we were playing together now, imagine when we play together in the big leagues,'” Almora said on the McNeil & Parkins Show on Tuesday afternoon. “We would have these conversations. Now, it’s actually a possibility. It’s pretty cool, man. If it were to happen, you’d see both of our families up here enjoying that moment together.”

So hey, just a couple of close friends who’d love to play on the same team and win the World Series together and it could realistically happen as soon as this year. And if not, maybe next year.

Still six months away from the offseason, but things are already starting to get crazy. I love every second of it. Except for the bad Jim Bowden trade ideas.
