The Chicago Blackhawks have made their fist move of the offseason to add depth at the blue line. They have signed Czechoslovakian defenseman Jan Rutta to a one year deal.
At 6’3″ and 200 lbs the 26 year old d-man has the size to play a physical game. He also has speed and great passing ability. He proved his worth as a balanced player this past season with Pirati Chomutov of the Czech League.
In 46 regular season games he had 8g and 24a. He continued his success through the postseason as well, while adding 2g and 11a in 17 games.
The highly sought after right-handed shot will be a nice addition to a Blackhawks team loaded with left-handed defenseman. Rutta will have the opportunity to gain great experience while playing with the great veterans on the Blackhawks’ blue line.
