Following an 8-2 homestand, the Chicago Cubs will hit the Eastern time zone for the next nine days for dates with the Phillies, Braves and Nationals.
The trip starts tonight in Philadelphia as the Cubs and Phillies play their second series of the season. The Cubs swept that three-game set at Wrigley over Memorial Day weekend and will send the winner of the opener of that series to the mound today in the form of Jon Lester. The southpaw threw 6 1/3 innings that afternoon, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out seven to pick up his fifth win of the season. That was also his fifth career win against the Phillies and he remains undefeated against them, holding a 5-0 record with a 1.71 ERA in seven career starts.
Philadelphia will counter with a lefty of their own in 26-year-old Adam Morgan, who took the loss that same afternoon at Wrigley as the Cubs beat him up for six runs and eight hits in six innings. He also took the loss in his most recent outing, giving up six more runs to the Washington Nationals this past Wednesday. He’ll face a Cubs lineup that includes Anthony Rizzo and Jason Heyward, both of whom were given the day off on Sunday.
