It’s going to be a fun day of baseball on the South Side as the Chicago White Sox welcome the Cleveland Indians to town for a doubleheader at U.S. Cellular Field.
The two clubs met the first weekend of the season, splitting two games before being rained out on Sunday, April 10. Hence, we’ve got double the fun today and Mat Latos will take the mound for Chicago in Game 1 for the AL Central-leading White Sox. Latos took his first loss of the season his last time out, giving up five runs and eleven hits in a loss to the Astros this past Wednesday. After starting the season with a 4-0 record to go along with a 0.74 ERA, Latos has struggled recently, going 1-1 with a 7.84 ERA in his last four starts. He did not pitch either of the first two games against the Indians this year.
Cleveland, who comes into today’s twin bill just 2.5 games behind the White Sox, will counter with 25-year-old rookie right-hander Mike Clevinger, who made his Major League debut this past Wednesday and allowed four runs on five hits against the Reds, taking a no-decision in the Indians’ 8-7 win at Great American Ball Park. He’s obviously not faced anyone on the White Sox roster.
