Cubs Look To Avoid A Season First In Game 2 Of Today’s Doubleheader

Well, you can’t win ’em all, right? The Chicago Cubs dropped today’s matinee against the San Diego Padres, thus ending their win streak at eight, but they can start a new one tonight in Game 2 of the day-night double dip at Wrigley Field.

John Lackey will go for the Cubs in the nightcap in search of his fifth win of the season. He threw seven solid innings of two-run, six-hit baseball in his most recent start last Thursday against the Nationals.

The Padres will counter with left-hander Drew Pomeranz, who’s been throwing extremely well as of late. In his last two starts, he’s given up only one run on four hits and struck out 10 in 12 combined innings. He’ll face a Cubs lineup that does not include the red-hot Ben Zobrist or Addison Russell. Tommy La Stella will man second base while Javier Baez takes over at shortstop.

The Chicago Cubs still haven’t lost back-to-back games this season and would obviously avoid that with a win in tonight’s series finale. Here’s everything else you need to know.
