The Best Chicago Bears Of All Time By Jersey Number: #70-79

1772

#77-Red Grange

Tenure: 1925, 1929-1934

Red Grange is one of the main reasons the NFL even exists. After an unbelievable college career at the University of Illinois, where his #77 is retired as it is in Chicago, Grange was swarmed with NFL offers and was signed by George Halas. The Bears went on a crazy 19-game, 67-day tour that netted Grange more than $100, 000 due to his salary and a share of the gate. That tour is credited with bringing the NFL into the mainstream and legitimizing professional football. He would leave the Bears for four years before returning in 1929 and helped the Bears win the NFL Championship in 1932 and 1933. He was a two-time All-Pro, a member of the 1920s All-Decade Team and the 50th and 75th Anniversary All-Time Teams.
