#28-Willie Galimore

Tenure: 1957-1963

Running back Willie Galimore was a great runner coming out of Florida A&M University, but he wasn’t widely known. The Bears got him in the fifth round of the 1957 NFL Draft, and in a documentary about his life, he was said to have been one of the last great secrets before the sophistication of NFL scouting. He was one of those players that could move horizontally perhaps just as well as he could vertically and was held in high regard by all those who played against him. He played seven years for the Bears and was only 29 years old when he was tragically killed in a car accident in July 1964. His #28 has been retired.
