It’s Throwback Thursday time again, and as Cubs fans await word on whether or not Jason Heyward will call Chicago home in 2016 and beyond, I thought I’d take a quick look back at Jason Heyward’s big league debut on April 5, 2010 against….the Chicago Cubs.
Heyward was coming in as one of the best prospects in all of baseball, and in his first game with the Atlanta Braves, the 20-year-old rookie did not disappoint. In the first inning of that season opener, the Cubs took the early lead on a three-run home run from Marlon Byrd. The Braves scored three right off the bat off of Carlos Zambrano in the bottom half of the inning and had two more men on base when Heyward stepped in for his first major league at-bat.
Heyward would add an RBI single in the 8th as well in a 16-5 Braves victory. Not a bad first day of work.
