Chicago Bulls Basketball- With a 105-92 win versus the Atlanta Hawks, the Chicago Bulls continue to prove all the doubters wrong as they move closer to securing the No.3 seed in the Eastern Conference. While players like Joakim Noah, D.J. Augustin, and Taj Gibson continue to garner attention for their on court performances, this Atlanta victory belonged to their coach, Tom Thibodeau for achieving win number 200 in his career.

The Career of Tom Thibodeau

Tom Thibodeau had a lot of hype surrounding him when the Bulls signed the former Boston Celtics assistant coach back in 2010. After being an assistant in the league for 30 years, Thibs finally got the chance to lead his own team when the Bulls hired him as the 21st head coach in franchise history — remind you of another Chicago coach?

Tom Thibodeau is Something Special

When Thibs originally signed with the Bulls, the goal was to take Derrick Rose from budding All-Star and turn him into a Top Five player in the league that could lead a basketball team to an NBA Championship. Thibodeau was successful with part of that goal by making Rose the youngest MVP in league history in his first season with the team. But no one would have expected Thibs to have to spend the majority of his career as the Bulls head coach to this point without his superstar guard. Instead, Thibodeau has found a way to create another star in Joakim Noah, make Luol Deng into an NBA All-Star, and revive the careers of Nate Robinson, Marco Belinelli and D.J. Augustin.

Through the four years Thibodeau has been head coach, he has gained the title of quickest coach to reach 100 wins and he won Coach of the Year in 2010. Thibodeau approaches every single game with the same mindset and intensity. He has been criticized at times for playing his players too many minutes, yet he still gets results (i.e. the 200-105 record he currently holds in his career).

Coach Thibs Hits 200 Wins

Thibs encountered possibly his toughest test this season when a championship-caliber Bulls team became a ‘Tank for Jabari’ hopeful thanks to a quick change of direction by Derrick Rose. Around Thanksgiving, the Bulls looked to have hit rock bottom and had no signs of recovering, yet Thibodeau believed in his team. Before long, they were playing like champions again and now are on their way to their fourth-consecutive playoff appearance under Thibs.

Chicago Bulls

While players like Joakim Noah, D.J. Augustin, Taj Gibson, and Jimmy Butler are gaining attention for league-wide awards, the real reason the Bulls are where they are is because of Thibodeau. If it weren’t for him and his crazy way of approaching games ‘one at a time,’ Chicago would be looking at a high lottery pick right now. It is very rare for a team’s most valuable asset to be their coach, but that is exactly what Thibs is.

Thank You

Congratulations on your 200th victory Coach Thibs, Chicago appreciates everything you do. Without you, Joakim Noah wouldn’t be arguably the top center in the NBA. Without you Derrick Rose would never have brought hope to a city that hasn’t felt such since the days of Michael Jordan.

Thank you Coach Thibs, you’ve made Chicago very proud to call ourselves Bulls fans through these past four years and we hope there are many more to come.
