Jon Jones successfully defended his title this weekend by “Chael Sonnen’ing, Chael Sonnen.” He dominated Chael in every aspect both in the clinch and wrestling before implementing some brutal ground-and-pound forcing the referee to stop the fight.
BUT, he didn’t walk out of the fight injury-free. In the video above you can see just how this gruesome injury happened. It actually appears that Jones was planting his foot, causing the big to snap because of the pressure. When it actually happened is still a bit unclear at the moment, but it clearly did not affect Jones’ short-term performance as he proceeded to bash Sonnen along the cage until the referee determined that he had had enough.
“My toe is not doing great, but I’m doing great, so my toe is doing great,” Jones said. ”It was somewhere near late in the round and I was springing forward and a felt a ‘pop.’ I thought my foot had got caught in a hole — I’ve had that happen at Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA, we have a hole in our canvas. I stubbed my big toe in it, and I was fine, but I told coach that we need to get it fixed because it’s pretty dangerous. I thought that was the scenario here tonight, but when the fight was over and I saw blood, then I look closer and saw that my toe was upside-down.” (MMA Mania)

Sports Mockery was created for sports fans to utilize sports writing in order to share their opinion with the world. Sports writing is typically left up to journalists, reporters and beat writers covering their local teams; however, they are not always right – that is why Sports Mockery was created. Sports writing by the fans is the only way for us to truly voice our opinion. Anyone can get a filtered media prospective on normal sports topics, but where can fans go to express their interpretation of an event via sports writing – Sports Mockery, that is where.
