White Sox SS Tim Anderson Goes On The Injured List

-

The White Sox have been hit with a few minor injury stints to start off the 2020 season, but this is by far the biggest setback yet.

After leaving in the middle of Friday night’s game against the Royals with what the team initially called a sore hip, the White Sox announced on Saturday that Tim Anderson has a strained right groin.

The shortstop has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Right-handed slugger Yermin Mercedes has been called up to take Anderson’s spot on the active roster.

After a slow start against the Twins, Anderson once again began to rack up the hits, going 8-for-16 in his last four games prior to the injury Friday night.

Anderson had an awkward play in the third inning in the series opener in Kansas City that may have resulted in the groin injury.

For now, Leury García will fill in for Anderson at shortstop.

García has made 28 career starts at shortstop, 16 of those coming in 2019.

Injuries are always a part of the game, but they’re magnified this season, as Anderson will now miss at least 16% of the year.
