Mitch Trubisky To Jimmy Graham? Bears Offer A Fun Camp Teaser

The Chicago Bears offense is going to look different this season. That much is obvious. It’s just how much different? They overhauled almost the entire offensive coaching staff. So one can imagine the scheming will see tweaks. Then there’s the personnel. The tight end room was rebuilt from the ground up, starting with veteran Jimmy Graham. What people are yet sure of is who will be throwing him the ball. Mitch Trubisky or Nick Foles?

Nobody can answer that right now. However, if it ends being the former then the Bears just provided the fans with a little taste of things to come. Going through passing drills on Sunday, Trubisky took a snap and did a solid job of looking off the safety. Then he fired a pass down the middle right over the outstretched arm of Danny Trevathan to Graham who caught it in stride.

This is something fans rarely saw last season from the Bears tight end position. It is a big reason the team signed Graham. Though 34-years old and no longer in his prime, the guy still offers size and a strong pair of hands. Obviously it is important not to get too overexcited by something like this. It’s more a taste of what could be coming this year. This offense just functions so much better when the tight ends get involved.

Jimmy Graham doesn’t have to be great to make things better

That isn’t an exaggeration either. Here is a reminder of how bad the tight ends were in 2019. The Bears saw one go for 24 yards or more in just four games last season. They were 3-1 in those games. That is how sad of a state they were in. Nobody is saying Graham has to be elite this season. If he can produce around 40-50 yards a week with a touchdown every once in a while? Things will be head and shoulder better than before.

It just becomes a question of who will throw him the ball. Trubisky was in the video but that could easily end up being Foles. This is why reports out of camp in the coming weeks will be crucial. Chicago is notorious for keeping videos in practice under lockdown. So answers probably won’t be forthcoming until the season is practically near.
