Insider Drops Two Major QB News Bombs That Will Affect Chicago Bears

-

The Chicago Bears have decisions to make regarding their quarterback position this offseason. As of right now, GM Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy stated with conviction that Mitch Trubisky will still be their guy in 2020. Of course they said that right at the end of 2019 when there were no clear alternatives. What else could they say? However, it appears things are moving fast on the quarterback market and in such a way that may yet bring this team options.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is one of the most well-connected insiders in the NFL. Whenever he’s delivered information regarding players, coaches, or teams in general? They’ve been 100% accurate. That is why it was a bit of a shock when he dropped not one but two quarterback-related bombs to start the Super Bowl week. First was the clear declaration that Philip Rivers, after 16 years, would part ways with the Los Angeles Chargers.

If that weren’t enough, an even bigger statement came when Glazer reported that the Saints had their next quarterback in mind if Drew Brees decided to retire. Only it wasn’t Teddy Bridgewater like many expected. It was jack-of-all-trades gadget man Taysom Hill.

Chicago Bears now have Rivers and Bridgewater as options

There were rumors that Saints head coach Sean Payton seriously viewed Hill as a potential long-term starter. Something people weren’t ready to accept. Now they have to. This virtually guarantees one thing. Bridgewater is unlikely to be back in New Orleans. They will either stay the course with Brees or move forward with Hill. That means the Bears will have both Bridgewater and Rivers as potential options come March.

This is a significant development. Bridgewater went 5-0 as a starter midway through 2019 when Brees got hurt. He threw nine touchdowns with just two interceptions and had a 99.1 passer rating. Many feel that was enough to prove he still has what it takes to be a starter in the NFL. As for Rivers? He didn’t have his best year, throwing 20 interceptions to just 23 touchdowns. However, he still posted 4,615 yards and showed he can still be an effective quarterback even at 38.

Both would offer legitimate competition to Trubisky if the Bears were to bring them in. It would likely cost a considerable amount of money, but if the team is serious about getting that position right then they have to be willing to accept the price that must be paid.
