Jerry Reinsdorf Called Rick Hahn About The Rumored Marcell Ozuna Signing, Laughed About It After

We’re signing Marcell Ozuna? Ha! That was basically Jerry Reinsdorf’s reaction this weekend after a reporter from the Dominican Republic said that the free agent outfielder was on his way to the U.S. to sign a deal with the White Sox.

According to Frank Castillo, the Ozuna contract would be announced today.

Within the hour 670 The Score’s Bruce Levine refuted the report and on Sunday so did national MLB insider Jon Heyman.

Rumor that Marcell Ozuna is signing with the White Sox with announcement coming Monday is not true, I’m told. White Sox appears to be concentrating on pitching at the moment.

Heyman followed up on Monday with this little gem. After seeing the rumor that the White Sox were going to sign Ozuna, Jerry called Rick to make sure he wasn’t going crazy.

Hahn assured his boss that he wasn’t and that no deal had been agreed to with Ozuna.

Jerry Reinsdorf had a laugh about Marcell Ozuna reports. He said he called Sox GM Rick Hahn and asked him, “Am I having a senior moment? Because I don’t recall any conversation about Marcell Ozuna.” He said Hahn assured him that it wasn’t a senior moment and there is no such deal

Anyway, the White Sox are reportedly interested in Ozuna, but again no deal as of Monday afternoon. The White Sox have also talked with Nick Castellanos’ reps.
