David Ross Downplays Rumors, Doesn’t Expect Cubs To Trade Kris Bryant

-

The Kris Bryant trade rumors aren’t going to stop anytime soon and they may pick up even more after Anthony Rendon and Josh Donaldson are signed.

Of course, new Cubs manager David Ross isn’t going to come out and say, “yeah, I think we’re trading KB,” and who knows how much and how often the front office updates the rookie manager on big roster moves. But Ross, who spent 15 seasons in the big leagues, is now on the other side and on Tuesday night he downplayed the trade rumors surrounding the Cubs.

And more on Bryant from Ross Wednesday morning.

So far there have been reports of the Phillies and Nationals checking in with the Cubs on a Bryant trade. Although, once again, no serious trade discussions have occurred. Those are expected to increase after the other free agent third basemen are signed, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, who wrote the following earlier this week.

And the latest rumor coming from Joel Sherman is that he wouldn’t be surprised if Bryant and Willson Contreras were both traded this offseason.

But that’s just one man’s opinion, based on? Based on nothing really.

If the Cubs do end up trading someone, then they’re going to only do it by getting a huge return. At least that’s what ESPN’s Jeff Passan is hearing at the Winter Meetings.

So, yay, there’s that.
