Let’s Laugh At This Outrageous Trade Proposal For Mookie Betts Involving The White Sox

-

When I first saw this trade proposal I automatically said, yeah, why not? Sure, the White Sox would give up two top-100 prospects, but it’s Mookie Betts! I know, I know, he only has one more year before he becomes a free agent, but if the White Sox pay this much they’d surely work out an extension with him, right?!?

And that’s the problem. This isn’t even a dig against the White Sox not willing to spend money because I doubt any team would be able to convince Betts to sign an extension before he hits free agency after the 2020 season. So, ultimately the following trade proposal truly only nets the White Sox one year of Betts.

The price? Michael Kopech and Nick Madrigal.

Ahh, it’s that lovely time of the year when MLB Network (pretty sure that’s MLB Network) comes up with outrageous trade proposals. It doesn’t matter what teams or players are involved because the trade ideas on these shows are either always a massive overpay or a massive underpay.

The latest on Betts? He along with Francisco Lindor and Kris Bryant are believed to be very much available in a trade this offseason, with at least one being moved according to some MLB executives.

As far as the White Sox and their early offseason rumblings, they are rumored to be interested in Nick Castellanos.

On the pitching side, Jon Morosi reported on Monday that the White Sox along with the Angels and Padres are teams showing interest in signing Zack Wheeler.

Whatever does end up happening I think we can all agree that some early fireworks would be welcomed after some painfully slow offseasons the last two years.
