Now that the immediate thrill of signing Yasmani Grandal has passed, it’s time to wonder what will become of Zack Collins. With the 26th man being added to rosters in 2020, it is reasonable to believe that the White Sox will carry 3 catchers on their roster in Grandal, James McCann, and Collins.
As long as Collins has been in the White Sox farm system, the biggest concern has been his defense. With Grandal being one of the best framers in the game, he could have a huge benefit on Collins and his sub par defense.
What many people don’t know is that Grandal and Collins have been friends since Zack was 16. They train together and already have a budding relationship similar to the bond Christian Yelich and Blake Rutherford share.
Collins already has power and a great eye. He should be a very solid offensive player once he settles in and gets more at-bats. If Grandal can teach him how to get better behind the dish as well…look out.
