Shut up. There is literally no risk in the Cubs re-signing right-hander Brandon Morrow to a minor league deal. After being out for a year and half, the 35-year-old isn’t dreaming of a payday. He just wants a chance to pitch for the Cubs and his agent is basically begging the Cubs to bring Morrow back at any price.

Via the Chicago Sun-Times.

“I don’t believe Brandon would sign with anyone else until the Cubs decide what they want to do,” Wolfe said. “The Cubs invested a lot of time into Brandon, and money, of course, and Brandon feels a certain sense of loyalty and obligation back to the Cubs to stay with them if they want him on a minor-league contract or something like that.
“He signed with the Cubs because he thought they were the best organization out there for him, and he still believes that.”

Morrow signed a two-year guaranteed deal before 2018 that also included a $3 million buyout for a third year in his contract that the Cubs are paying him.

For a minor league deal? Why the hell not. See how he’s doing in spring training and if Morrow still doesn’t look to be on track, then cut him loose. Nothing is lost. If Morrow is finally healthy again, then get anything you can out of him because even if he does join the Cubs he won’t be making much money either.

Morrow has been dominant as a reliever and it’s not like the Cubs would be counting on him or anything like that. It’s the least riskiest move the Cubs could do this offseason.

But you know, Morrow has to actually prove he can still throw a baseball before the Cubs decide to sign him to a minor league deal.

At this point, it’s safe to expect the Cubs will give Morrow one more chance.
