Tim Anderson Is Now The Top Hitter In MLB

-

The White Sox lost another wild game in extra innings, but despite the 9-8 defeat to the Twins shortstop Tim Anderson went 4-for-6, bringing his season batting average to .336.

Not only is Anderson leading the American League in hitting, but he passed Anthony Rendon from the Nationals for the best average in MLB. Rendon is at .332. DJ LeMahieu is behind Anderson in the American League at .329.

Anderson’s big night in Minnesota included a go-ahead solo home run in the 11th inning.

Unfortunately, White Sox closer Alex Colome blew the save, but it did give the White Sox another chance to hit and after Ryan Cordell hit another go-ahead home run, Anderson got his fourth hit of the game in the 12th.

But again, the White Sox bullpen couldn’t hold the lead and the Twins scored three runs in the bottom of the 12th and won on a walk-off, bases loaded hit by pitch.

The White Sox have 11 games left this season and that includes seven against the Tigers. Detroit’s pitching staff has allowed a .274 batting average to opponents this season, tied with the Orioles for third worst in MLB.

So, Anderson has a great shot to win the batting crown.

If Anderson does win it, he’ll be the first White Sox player to do it since Frank Thomas in 1997. Luke Appling is the other White Sox player to accomplish the feat, winning two batting titles in 1936 and 1943.
