The Cubs were shutout by the Brewers for the second game in a row on Sunday and now their All-Star shortstop is dealing with a new injury.

Javier Báez stole second base in the third inning and although it appeared that he tweaked his neck after a hard tag, Báez exited the game in the seventh because he jammed his left thumb on the slide and couldn’t really grip a bat afterward.

Not exactly what you want to hear as a Cubs fan, especially after seeing the team shutout for 18 straight innings in what’s been yet another inconsistent season for the entire offense.

But at least x-rays were negative.

The Cubs start a quick two-game set against the Mariners on Monday at Wrigley Field. Javy most likely won’t play at this point.
