Cubs Gave The Pirates A Historical Ass Kicking

The Cubs came back to Wrigley Field for their final home stand of the regular season and I think scoring 47 runs in three games was a good way to start it.

After scoring 17 runs in the series opener on Friday against the Pirates, the Cubs didn’t slow down, putting up 14 on Saturday and 16 on Sunday, when they completed the sweep.

Since 1900, the record for most runs scored in a three-game series by the Cubs was 44 in 1930.

A quick note. That 1930 Cubs team scored 998 runs that season, but that was still only third-most in MLB that year. Oh and no surprise, but the 1930 Phillies allowed the most runs, 1,199!

After hitting nine home runs in the first two games against the Pirates, the Cubs hit five more Sunday, setting a new team record.

Tiny mistake, as Victor Caratini hit a home run on Saturday, not Anthony Rizzo, but still 14 for the Cubs this weekend.

This series also included the Cubs breaking their team record for most home runs in a season, previously set by the 2004 Cubs who hit 235. The Cubs currently have 242 homers in 2019, with 13 games left in the regular season.

Oh and the Cubs also set a new record for most grand slams in a season.

Decent series. Hopefully the Cubs can keep it going against the Reds, although to be fair, I’m only expecting 10 runs per game by the offense, not almost 16.
