Addison Russell hasn’t played since he was hit in the head against the Brewers on Sept. 8, and before Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates the Cubs officially placed him on the concussion list.

That means Russell will be out for at least another three games.

No matter what you think of Russell, head injuries are scary, so hopefully he takes as much time as possible to recover.

As for the Cubs, they’ve called up Nico Hoerner and well, he’s made up for the loss of Javier Báez and has made Russell disposable on the roster.

The rookie infielder started all seven games last week at shortstop and went 11-for-29, with two home runs, 11 RBIs, eight runs scored, three walks and a triple.

Pretty safe to say that Hoerner will stay at shortstop through the end of the regular season and will only move to second base if the Cubs reach the postseason and Báez has recovered from his thumb injury.
