Cubs veteran utility man Ben Zobrist is headed to Triple-A Iowa, where he’ll play from Thursday to Sunday.

Zobrist, who has been on the restricted list since early May, has been on a rehab assignment down in the minors for the past two weeks as he plans to work himself back into shape to rejoin the Cubs.

After these next four games with the Iowa Cubs, the team will once again re-evaluate how Zobrist feels before deciding the next step for him.

Zobrist played three games at High-A ball this past weekend and homered in back-to-back games for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. He’s played in a total of six games since coming back to play with South Bend and Myrtle Beach, going 4-for-19, with two home runs, five strikeouts and three walks.

Yet, this latest move to send Zobrist to Triple-A doesn’t mean the Cubs have sped up his comeback.

The Cubs have said they expect Zobrist to return until the end of August.

Zobrist has to be back on the 40-man roster and off the restricted list before Sept. 1, for him to be postseason eligible for the Cubs.
