It only took Javier Baez being ill for Joe Maddon to realize that putting Anthony Rizzo back at leadoff would be a good thing for the first baseman and the rest of the Cubs offense, especially with Jason Heyward nursing a sore knee.
Rizzo homered in his second at-bat Thursday night, snapping a long streak without a home run.
That was only Rizzo’s third home run since June 16. He’s been getting on base at a great clip, but the power numbers in the past two months have steadily declined.
Hopefully this gets Rizzo going again.
