Should Cubs Fans Be Worried About Willson Contreras Now?

You know who’s having an incredible 2019 season for the Cubs? Willson Contreras. But now he has this foot thing going on and not a Rex Ryan foot fetish thing, a foot injury thing, and I don’t like it.

After hitting his 19th home run of the year during Saturday’s 10-4 win over the Pirates, Contreras had to leave the game late because of a sore right foot. He wasn’t in the lineup on Sunday, when the Cubs swept the Pirates and now Contreras is out for the second straight game.

Victor Caratini, (Air Tini, I’m making it a thing) who’s been great this year as the back up to Contreras, is getting another start behind the plate tonight, as the Cubs begin a series against the Reds.

We’ve seen way too many times during the past few years that “minor” injuries turn into nagging ones for the Cubs. And maybe that’s just because it’s impossible to put a timetable on some of them, but the Cubs also act like the 10-day injured list isn’t a thing.

Not saying that Contreras needs to be sent to the IL, but if this foot injury prevents him from starting a few more times, then playing with one fewer player on the bench is pretty bad when you already have Daniel Descalso contributing….leadership.

Fingers crossed that this is indeed something minor, but it’s definitely worth keeping your eye on this week.

Also, Willson needs some advice on new shoes if this is the reason for the soreness.
