Yu Darvish Is A Start Away From Breaking A Quirky MLB Record

For those obsessed with the win/loss records of a pitcher, did you know that Cubs starter Yu Darvish hasn’t lost in nearly two months? The thing is, during his last 10 starts, Darvish hasn’t figured in a decision and on Friday he tied three other pitchers for the longest streak of no decisions in MLB history.

Let’s hope Darvish doesn’t break this quirky MLB record and instead gets his first win at Wrigley Field next week.

The last time a pitcher had 10 consecutive no-decisions was in 1977, when Randy Lerch and John D’Acquisto reached the fluky milestone.

The Cubs are 5-5 in Darvish’s last 10 starts and while he’s had some bad luck, allowing only one earned run against the Cardinals and Dodgers, he’s also struggled keeping a lead.

On Friday, Darvish squandered 2-1 and 4-3 leads against the Mets, departing after six innings with the game tied at four.

Not ideal.

Eight of the 10 games have been decided by one run, including the last five. The Cubs are 2-3 during that stretch. Meanwhile, all five losses during the 10 no-decision period have been by just one run.

Darvish, who only made eight starts in 2018, before going down with an arm injury, has yet to win a game at Wrigley Field for the Cubs.

He has improved during the past month, but Darvish does need to pitch better. Yet, there is definitely something weird about this streak.
