White Sox Officially Call Up Their #1 Catching Prospect

-

Prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, the White Sox officially called up their #1 catching prospect Zack Collins.

Veteran catcher Welington Castillo was placed on the 10-day injured list, as he was removed from Sunday’s series finale against the Yankees with a back issue. It turns out that Castillo has a strained oblique muscle.

The White Sox also activated reliever Jace Fry from the injured list. He takes Thyago Vieira bullpen spot after being optioned down the other day.

Despite being called up, Collins probably won’t be starting against the Cubs on Tuesday and Wednesday, as lefties Cole Hamels and Jon Lester will be on the mound.

Collins, a left-handed hitter, walks a good amount of times, but also strikes out more than 30% of his plate appearances. Nevertheless, he’s finally been called up and now fans and the White Sox will be able to see what he can do against MLB pitching. Expect some lows, but at this point you just want to see what Collins can do at the highest level.
