Craig Kimbrel The Starter? Latest Plan For Cubs Closer

Craig Kimbrel made his second relief appearance at Triple-A for the Iowa Cubs Friday night and the righty pitched another scoreless inning. Kimbrel recorded three ground ball outs, stranding a runner at second base who doubled off him.

Kimbrel only needed eight pitches to get three outs in his 2019 debut Tuesday in Sacramento.

So, what’s next for the Cubs closer? He might be the starter Saturday night in Iowa. There’s a good chance that it will rain tonight, so the Cubs want to make sure that Kimbrel gets in before any delay.

That means Kimbrel would be pitching back-to-back days. After that he’ll get two days off and then pitch again Tuesday. So, as of now Kimbrel could join the Cubs bullpen Thursday against the Braves at the earliest.

So, fingers crossed that all goes well for Kimbrel.
