Chicago Bears Insider Has Some Fun Trolling ESPN

-

The Chicago Bears arguably have the most stable roster in the NFL right now. They went 12-4 last year and won the NFC North. This offseason they only lost two starters of the 22 they had in 2018. Neither of them is a core player. Adrian Amos and Bryce Callahan, while solid players, were not vital to the bottom line for the Bears. So they were allowed to hit free agency.

Looking at the roster as things stand, it’s difficult to find any spot on the depth chart that could be called a weakness. Everyone on offense and defense has at least two solid names in place and a few have significant depth as well. Only the kicker position remains a glaring question mark. When that’s the case for a team, you know you’re in pretty good shape.

This might explain why Bears insider Jeff Dickerson decided to tease his colleagues at ESPN. The sports outlet has been notorious of late for picking on Chicago for one reason or another. So the longtime reporter decided to strike back by stating the team has no notable veteran on the roster in danger of being cut.

Nobody

The Bears are such a young team that identifying a veteran player on the bubble is nearly impossible. Former running back Taquan Mizzell’s roster spot is in jeopardy after he moved to wide receiver in the offseason, but Mizzell is hardly a well-known commodity around the league. Fourth-year defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard has underwhelmed in Chicago, but Bullard is a former third-rounder, and the odds of the Bears letting him go appear remote.”

Chicago Bears are locked in towards pursuing a Super Bowl

As much fun as that statement is, the fact that it’s backed by a strong element of truth says a lot. This team is ready to win. It is relatively young and has been together now for a considerable amount of time. Those elements often lead to extended success. No doubt their sense of urgency will be high in 2019 though. Salary cap problems could lead to some difficult decisions by next year.

Leonard Floyd, Cody Whitehair, Eddie Jackson, and Tarik Cohen will all be looking for new deals in 2020. Danny Trevathan will be a free agent. As will an assortment of other key depth players like Roy Robertson-Harris, Nick Kwiatkoski, Chase Daniel, and Sherrick McManis. GM Ryan Pace has a significant challenge ahead of him in terms of keeping this team in the playoff picture long-term.

Given what he’s already done to this point, it feels like he should be able to handle it.
