Update: Cubs Bullpen, Which Is Bad, Blows Another Game

I mean, Theo Epstein is eventually going to make a trade for bullpen help, but until he does the Cubs have to survive knowing that they can’t trust more than one or two relievers in any given game. At this point, the rotation has to be close to perfect and even with the offense averaging five runs per game it’s not enough for this crappy bullpen.

Kyle Hendricks gave up three runs in six innings and left with a 4-3 lead. Brad Brach came in and the Reds tied the game in the seventh.

But the Cubs got another big pinch-hit, as Willson Contreras put the Cubs ahead 5-4 with a two-out, RBI-single in the eighth.

Then, Steve Cishek came in to record the save, but walked Joey Votto and then blew the game.

Two blown leads in three innings.

Need a little more sense of urgency from the front office.

Pedro Strop is expected to be back soon, maybe in a week. Even with his return, the Cubs still need at least one and preferably two more relievers you can actually trust.

Brandon Morrow? There’s no way the Cubs should be pretending they’ll get anything out of him this year.
