Entering Monday’s play, Ian Happ had a slash line of .219/.343/.356, in 41 games at Triple-A. He’s still taking his walks (26) but Happ is still striking out way too much, 45 in 146 at-bats. Now, Happ is dealing with an injury.
During Monday’s game with Iowa, Happ took a ground ball off his right hand and was then taken out.
In 17 games this month, Happ is batting .196, but does have a .361 OBP. However, his patience at the plate has pretty much erased any power from his bat, as he’s only put up a .268 slugging % in 56 at-bats in May.
After playing in 268 games for the Cubs in 2017-18, Happ was surprised to learn that he wouldn’t be on the 2019 Opening Day roster. He was sent to Triple-A Iowa and although there were a couple weeks when it seemed that Happ was finally turning the corner, he’s fallen back into a big slump. Things won’t be easier if he has to miss time with an injury.
