Mitch Trubisky Adds Fuel To Growing Chicago Bears Rumor

-

Mitch Trubisky isn’t the sort of guy who plays the political game when it comes to the media. He answers questions as honestly as he can. Sure he won’t go into details about certain sensitive information. However, he tries to be as open and up front about things as possible. One of the many qualities that is making him a favorite about Chicago Bears fans.

A perfect example took place during an interview with Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Many subjects were covered. Trubisky is apparently fascinated by the Bears’ eight-man kicker competition. He also detailed how he handled the playoff loss to Philadelphia. From chomping at the bit knowing they should’ve won to taking his first vacation in years.

His most interesting comment though came regarding a persistent Bears rumor. One that involves the possibility of the team switching left guard James Daniels to center and moving Cody Whitehair to his spot at guard. It was an idea the team toyed with last year but held off at the time. Now they seem more confident about giving it a try.

Mitch Trubisky claims the team is ready for a switch to happen

While GM Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy have said the team is still evaluating the idea, no decision has yet been reached. However, based on how Trubisky answers the question it almost seems like a foregone conclusion at this point.

The Bears have talked openly about flip-flopping left guard James Daniels and Cody Whitehair, who has been Trubisky’s center for two years. Trubisky made it sound likely.

“Everyone’s bought into it — the guys up front, I’ve bought into it — that it’s going to make us better,” Trubisky said. “If James is a better center and Cody’s a better guard, that’s just making our offense better. Let’s do it.”

It’s an unusual situation. Whitehair just attended his first Pro Bowl as a center last season. Switching him at this point seems odds. Still, it’s always felt like the ultimate goal when the Bears drafted Daniels was for him to end up there. It’s the position that got him taken in the 2nd round despite being only 20-years old.

Whitehair has always seemed a little uncomfortable there, dealing with constant snapping issues. Moving to guard may be the best thing for him. Far less thinking and more blocking. Nothing is official yet, but it seems the inevitability is growing.
