White Sox Call Up Reliever Josh Osich

-

The White Sox have already made a few moves to their struggling bullpen in the first couple weeks of the season and they made another before their series opener against the Yankees. After optioning lefty Caleb Frare following Wednesday’s loss to the Rays, the White Sox have replaced him with another left-hander Josh Osich.

The 30-year-old has a 5.01 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 120.1 MLB innings all coming with the Giants. His best MLB season was in his rookie year back in 2015, when he put up a 2.20 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 28.2 innings. Since then his numbers have steadily gotten worse and in 2018 he had an injury and only pitched in MLB 12 games.

Osich had a 8.25 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in 2018 with the Giants.

He has been much better against lefties during his career, holding left-handed hitters nearly 200 points lower in OPS compared to right-handed hitters.

Last year in the minors, Osich pitched in 45.1 innings. He had a 4.96 ERA and 1.63 WHIP. He’s struck out four, allowed three hits, two walks and only one run so far in four innings at Triple-A this to begin 2019.

The White Sox currently rank seventh worst in bullpen ERA at 5.91.
