Khris Davis Could Make White Sox Offense Elite In 2020

-

So far in 2019, the White Sox are a bad baseball team again. They won’t be a good baseball team until the front office makes additions from outside the organization, either by trade or free agency. According to Rick Hahn, the money will be spent, but it will never be about one single player. That’s why a guy like Khris Davis would make a lot of sense to be the White Sox DH of the future, starting in 2020.

When it comes to consistency, there may not be a more reliable player in baseball than Davis. He has batted exactly .247 every year dating back to 2015, his last year with the Milwaukee Brewers. More importantly, he has hit at least 40 home runs and 100 RBI in every year since 2016, including an absurd 48/123 last year.

The White Sox will have a hole at DH since we all know Yonder Alonso is not the long term answer. I also think Jose Abreu has some years left in the tank at first base.

We have to remember that the Sox have A TON of money available to spend. Davis will get paid, but not nearly as much as Manny Machado, Nolan Arenado, etc. He’ll be 32 in 2020 but has obviously showed no signs of slowing down any time soon, and he should be able to produce for an extended period with him being limited to a DH role. If the Sox are able to sign Davis, they would still have enough to go after a bigger fish (Gerrit Cole cough cough). Now you’re looking at a 2020 lineup that looks something like this:

Madrigal- 2B

Moncada- 3B

Jimenez- LF

Davis- DH

Abreu- 1B

Robert- CF

Anderson- SS

Adolfo/Free Agent/Trade(?)- RF

Collins- C

Now that is a professional lineup. No players that should be in Triple-A, and every single player can hit 20+ home runs besides Madrigal. That’s a lineup that can win. And with a healthy Michael Kopech and a full year of Dylan Cease, 2020 can still be an awesome year on the South Side of Chicago IF the right moves are made and the money is spent like Hahn has promised.
